Meet our Executive Team

Dereck
President and CEO

An accomplished business leader with considerable experience in managing publicly-traded high tech companies through significant growth, Mark Burton was appointed President and CEO of AD OPT Technologies in February 2004. Prior to joining AD OPT, Mark was President and CEO of Digital Processing Systems (DPS), a TSX-listed manufacturer of computer hardware and software used in the broadcast and post production industries. Under his direction, DPS experienced strong revenue growth and a significant increase in profitability. In late 2000, a competitor purchased the company for $90 million. Mark has over 10 years of experience in mergers and acquisitions developed as an Associate and Partner at law firms Stikeman Elliott and New York-based Mayer Brown Rowe & Maw. Mark obtained an LL.B., with Distinction, from the University of Western Ontario and a B.Sc. Honors, from Queen's University. Mark is a member of the Board of Directors of Longview Solutions, a developer of corporate performance management software used by finance organizations of large global companies. He also serves on the University of Ottawa Heart Institute Foundation Board of Directors, and the Elmwood School Board of Directors.

Donna Farnworth
Vice President Finance and CFO

Donna Farnworth has been an integral and important member of the executive management team since 1995. Responsible for the financial planning of the corporation, Donna is a key figure in investor relations, strategic management, acquisitions and planning for the company. With more than 15 years experience in finance and accounting with international companies within the manufacturing and software sectors, Donna led Total Care’s integration into the family-fold setting a solid foundation for its immediate success as an AD OPT subsidiary. Donna previously served as a Financial Analyst and Consolidations Accountant with Electrovert Ltd, in addition to a variety of positions with Crane Canada Inc. Donna holds a B.COM, Finance and a CMA designation.

Jean-Pierre Servant
Divisional Vice President, ShiftLogic

Obtained its Masters Degree in .......hospitality and public and emergency services sectors. His career spans many senior executive positions where he has led the execution of strategic, operating and/or sales plans. Having worked as a corporate finance lawyer, Jean-Pierre obtained an MBA in Marketing and International Management from HEC-Montreal, holds a Bachelor’s degree in Law and a certificate in Economics from the University of Montreal. He has been a member of the Quebec Bar since 1990.

Iain McLean
Divisional Vice President and General Manager, Total Care

Using his extensive knowledge of growth businesses and experience with change management, Iain McLean was instrumental in restructuring and repositioning Total Care within the marketplace. Having joined AD OPT’s subsidiary in 2002, Iain and his healthcare focused staff generated 42 percent of the company’s revenues after only its first full year of operations. Iain’s previous roles include Vice President, Operations at Ballard Power Systems, CEO of AutoMed and COO of Sonigistix and Inforetech. Iain holds an Engineering degree from Imperial College, London and an MBA from Harvard Business School.

Gilles Lapierre
Divisional Vice President, Altitude

Gilles Lapierre joined the Altitude division in September 2003. Gilles has over fourteen years of experience in the telecommunications industry and an acute knowledge of software development. For eight years, Gilles held various managerial positions at Ericsson Canada, including Director, Systems Integration and Vice-President, Sales. Most recently Gilles was Executive Vice-President, Operations of OZ Communications. Gilles has an Electrical Engineering degree and a Master’s degree in Applied Science.

John Allarie
Vice President Sales, Altitude

An essential influence behind the Altitude division’s sales success since 1997, John Allarie provides AD OPT with valuable insight into the needs of the airline crew planner and its crewmembers. Using his 25 years of crew scheduling experience with Air Canada and his acute understanding of the airline industry, John works with his sales team to transform airline needs into optimization software solutions that respond to the specific concerns of each airline. John is a recognized, respected and valuable figure within the international airline industry.

Board of Directors

Yves Julien is the founder of Corporation Financiere YJ, a consulting firm that assists major corporations with private financings, mergers and acquisitions and strategic counsel. Prior to establishing Corporation Financiere YJ in 1999, Mr. Julien held several senior positions at Merrill Lynch in both Canada and the U.S.

Michel Lozeau has 30 years of experience in technology and management with a particular focus on Information Technology, Business Transformation and e-Business. He currently is an Executive Coach with CDC Coaching and a partner with Gestion de Breslay, where he provides strategic consulting services to the IT industry. Mr. Lozeau has a Bachelor of Commerce degree from McGill University and holds an Executive MBA from Queen's University.

Alain Miquelon is Vice President, Strategic Development and Chief Financial Officer at Mediagrif. Before joining Mediagrif in 1999, he held the position of Vice-President, Finance and Administration and Chief Financial Officer at Memotec Communications Inc. Mr. Miquelon also has experience in investment banking, working with Scotia Capital from 1992-1995. He holds an MBA from INSEAD and a Bachelor of Commerce from HEC Montreal.

Austin Phillip Page has had a distinguished career in both the public and private sector. From 1999 to 2001, he was Chairman of the Board of Cryptologic Inc. and was President & CEO of Aluma Enterprises Inc. from 1992 to 1996. Mr. Page has also held several directorships in a variety of organizations including the Banca Commerciale Italiana du Canada, the Huntington Society, the Ottawa Senators Hockey Club and the Canadian Stage Company.

Eric Rosenfeld is President and CEO of the New York investment firm, Crescendo Partners, L.P. With extensive experience dealing with public enterprises, Eric’s past positions include Managing Director at CIBC Oppenheimer and its predecessor company Oppenheimer & Co., Inc. and Chairman of the Board of Spar Aerospace Limited. Eric is a regular guest lecturer at Columbia Business School and has served on numerous panels at Queen’s University Business Law School Symposia, McGill Law School and the World Presidents’ Organization. He has also been a frequent guest host on CNBC. He received an MBA from Harvard University and an AB degree in Economics from Brown University.
